Nobody should put up a statue of themselves while alive—Jon Benjamin mocks Akufo-Addo

The destruction of former President Nana Akufo-Addo's statue in Sekondi has caught the attention of former UK Ambassador to Ghana, Jon Benjamin.

The statue, erected in November 2024 during Akufo-Addo's "Thank-You Tour" at Effia Nkwanta Hospital, was destroyed on January 13, drawing mixed reactions.

The diplomat mocked the former president, tweeting: "Nobody should ever put up a statue of themselves while still alive, let alone while still in office."

While some residents condemned the act as disrespectful, others argue it reflects public dissatisfaction with the former president’s contributions to the region.

No arrests have been made so far.
