Finance Minister-designate Cassiel Ato Forson has reignited the debate surrounding the controversial E-Levy during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

He described the tax as detrimental to Ghana’s progress toward a cash-lite economy, labeling it as neither a direct, indirect, nor excise tax.

“I’ve written against E-Levy, and I stand by those views. If approved, I will announce its abolition as part of the first budget within our 120-day agenda,” he boldly declared, aligning his promise with former President Mahama’s commitment to scrap the levy.

He said this during his vetting before Parliament's Appointments Committee on January 13, 2025.
