Accra, Ghana - In a recent ruling, the Accra High Court has ordered social media personality, Bongo Ideas, to pay GH₵170,000 in damages to Ghanaian forex trader, Kojo Forex, for defamation.
The court's decision comes after Kojo Forex filed a lawsuit against Bongo Ideas, seeking GH₵1,000,000 in damages for libel, a perpetual injunction, and a public apology.Kojo Forex alleged that Bongo Ideas published defamatory statements about him on Twitter, damaging his reputation.
The court awarded GH₵100,000 in general damages, GH₵50,000 in aggravated, exemplary, and compensatory damages, and GH₵20,000 in legal costs.Additionally, Bongo Ideas has been ordered to issue a public apology and retract the defamatory statements on his Twitter page within 21 days.
This ruling serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible speech, especially on social media platforms.
